The National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria celebrates World Statistics Day.


145 Years of Bulgarian Statistics

To mark the World Statistics Day on 20 October 2025, the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria has planned the following promotional activities in order to raise awareness of the importance of official statistics, both European and Bulgarian, and to promote its value and role in the society:On 20th October 2025 will be launched the European Statistics Competition 2025/2026. The BNSI in collaboration with the Eurostat and other Member States organize for the eighth time the European Statistics Competition. The Competition has enjoyed great interest with over 6000 participants from the entire country in its seven previous editions. The event is included in the official calendar of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science of national competitions for students for the academic year 2025/2026.
BNSI will organize open-doors events for students in several regional statistical offices. The students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the activities of BNSI and the European Statistical System, as well as the World Statistics Day. The importance of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and the 16 principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice, which guarantee that official statistics is guided solely by scientific, ethical and professional standards, will also be highlighted.
On occasion of the World Statistics Day, BNSI will present the results from the fourth edition of the Statistical essay competition for students. The aim of the competition is to increase the functional literacy and statistical culture of students, provoking their creative potential and developing their skills for critical thinking and working with data.


Social media posts and infographics of Eurostat will be adapted in Bulgarian and will be published on NSI’s official Facebook and Instagram channels. All Eurostat activities will be promoted via BNSI social media channels.
