Celebrating 95 Years of Health Data in Mongolia.

The foundation of health sector statistics in Mongolia dates back to 1930, when the Ministry of Health was established and began collecting reports on population health. As a result, 2025 marks the 95th anniversary of health statistical operations in the sector. Since its establishment in 1996, the Health Development Center under the Ministry of Health has been responsible for implementing health sector statistical activities — collecting and processing large health datasets, providing data to users, ensuring digital and information security, strengthening human resource capacity, and organizing national-level capacity-building activities.

In celebration of World Statistics Day, the health sector will organize “Health Statistics Week” from October 20th–25th, 2025, to raise awareness about the importance of using statistics, big data, and evidence-based research for improving data quality, accessibility, and coverage. This event will also mark the first annual observance of the initiative, which is intended to continue regularly each year. Beyond a single week, activities will extend throughout the year as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen data governance and institutional capacity.

Within the framework of Health Statistics week,  the following activities are planned:

• Improving data coverage and quality, and introducing updates related to statisticians’ rights and training based on new roles. • Organizing discussions for health leaders on using statistics and evidence in decision-making. • Promoting the importance of statistics to the general public. • Enhancing the quality and accessibility of big data and health statistics.

These initiatives aim to reinforce the value of health statistics in advancing informed policymaking and improving public health outcomes.
