Data and Statistics for Everyone.
This World Statistics Day, the Collaborative on Citizen Data celebrates the power of quality data and statistics for everyone.
This year’s celebration is especially meaningful as we prepare to return to Bangkok for our 4th Expert Group Meeting in November — a full-circle moment for the Collaborative. Three years ago, our journey began in this very city, where partners and data advocates came together for the first time to explore how citizen data could strengthen official statistics. That inaugural gathering marked the first global dialogue between National Statistical Offices and civil society organizations on citizen data — and it was there that the idea for the Collaborative was born.
Since that moment, our collective work has continued to grow. We’ve developed methodological guidance, expanded our network of partners across regions, hosted workshops and events, and seen the endorsement of the Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data at the 56th United Nations Statistical Commission — a milestone that traces its roots back to those early discussions in Bangkok.
World Statistics Day embodies what the Collaborative stands for: ensuring that data systems are shaped by and for the people they represent. As we prepare to gather once again in Bangkok, we carry forward this momentum and are ready to write the next chapter of collaboration and innovation for citizen data.
