Statistics to the People, for the People.
Rwanda, through the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), is preparing to celebrate World Statistics Day 2025, an event held every five years to emphasize the important role of reliable, timely, and trustworthy statistics for decision-making at all levels.
In Rwanda, NISR leads the production, analysis, and dissemination of official statistics that guide national planning, policymaking, and citizen empowerment through data-driven insights.
The theme of this year's World Statistics Day is “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone.”
In line with the theme, NISR will organize a citizen outreach campaign in Nyabihu District in the Western Province and Musanze District in the Northern Province to bring statistics closer to people in rural areas and enhance statistical literacy among citizens. The event is scheduled for the 29th and 30th of October 2025. To reach a wider audience, it will be broadcast live on Radio Rwanda, the national radio station under the Rwanda Broadcast Agency (RBA), which covers more than 98% of Rwanda’s territory. This will help ensure that NISR’s message reaches not only citizens participating in the field activities but also those listening across the country.
The objectives of this outreach campaign are to:
• Raise Awareness: Highlight the role of statistics in national development and individual decision-making. • Enhance Engagement: Create a platform for direct interaction with citizens in rural areas, addressing their questions and perspectives on statistics. • Inspire Action: Encourage citizens to use statistics in everyday life through interactive sessions and small rewards.
Through this event, NISR aims to strengthen statistical literacy, deepen public understanding of data, and foster collaboration with citizens as key contributors to the national statistical system.
