Celebration of the Fourth World Statistics Day.

20 October 2025

This year we will commemorate the World Statistics Day alongside the United Nations' 80th anniversary. As we prepare for the celebration, we are reminded of how crucial reliable data is for global progress. This is a particularly good opportunity to reflect on statistics' vital role in informed decision-making across the UN system and the world at large.

The global statistical community is an example of how well the UN can function, with professionals from all continents and countries collaborating across borders to establish shared standards and methodologies and make the data available. This international cooperation enables us to track progress on critical challenges from climate change to public health.

In today's world, high-quality statistics are more important than ever before. Trusted statistical sources help citizens, policymakers, and businesses cope with complexity in these turbulent times. Statistics illuminate problems that might otherwise remain hidden and help us in our mission to leave no-one behind.

Quality data must be accessible to everyone, not just experts or institutions. When reliable data reach communities around the world, they empower informed decisions at all levels. I’m confident that the fourth World Statistics Day will help us advance towards that goal, and look forward to celebrating the event with our exceptional global community!
