Bangladesh joined the global community in observing World Statistics Day 2025, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to advancing a robust, modern, and inclusive data ecosystem. This year’s observance carries the theme “Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone,” reflecting the crucial role of credible and timely data in sustainable development. This year the National Statistics Day is also being celebrated at the same day to show the natonal commitment aligned with global celebration.

In his official message, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed delight that Bangladesh is once again celebrating World Statistics Day in line with other nations. He emphasized that statistics play a central role in government policy and planning, especially in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Professor Yunus lauded the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) for its longstanding contributions to the country’s evidence-based policymaking and for embracing digital transformation and innovation in data systems. He stressed that the use of statistics enhances transparency, accountability, and good governance, and contributes to the realization of the government’s vision of a Smart Bangladesh.

He also called upon policymakers, researchers, statisticians, and data users across the country to promote data literacy, accuracy, and effective use of information to ensure inclusive national development.

The Statistics and Informatics Division (SID) and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) jointly organized the national observance, featuring a seminar, rally, cultural program along with presentation of recent innovations in official statistics. A colorful Souvenir and Supplimentary to Natoinal Newspaper will be also published to make the day memorable. Participants included senior government officials, development partners, academicians, and representatives from international organizations.

World Statistics Day, declared by the United Nations, is observed every five years to recognize the importance of statistics in shaping informed policies and advancing sustainable development. Bangladesh’s active participation underscores its growing commitment to using quality data as a catalyst for social and economic progress.
